Year 12 student Yasemin had a surprise visit today from Vanessa Dundon, the Community Champion at Morrisons, who presented her with a bouquet of flowers, balloons and a hamper to thank her for all the work she has done to make a difference for the local people living in poverty.
Yasemin decided to start the food collections after considering how the effects of Covid-19 has changed people’s living circumstances substantially, and knowing how competitive the staff and students at MLT Sixth Form are, she decided to run a competition within school for each form to make 'hampers' , which would be judged on their presentation and contents, and then donated.
The Morrisons Community Hero award is presented to people who are contributing to society to make a difference.
Vanessa Dundon said: “It’s incredible to see someone so young actively making such a different, we were all really impressed at Morrisons and it was clear she was a worthy winner for the title of Community Hero.
“The food banks are extremely busy at the moment and I’m sure Yasemin doesn’t even realise the impact her donation will have on these families at such a difficult time in the year. She truly is a hero.”
